Chef Jesse Schenker “The Gander” in Flatiron District
The Gander just opened a month ago in the Flatiron area. I was not familiar with Chef Jesse Schenker’s cuisine so I came here with no expectations. Sometimes it is better that way so I can taste the food as it is. As soon as I saw the menu I found so many dishes that I wanted to try. Nom Nom Nom. Where to start? ~~ First, we ordered two dishes from the snack menu. It was not a snack size, more of an appetizer size. The brisket ball was so good! None of us were vegetarian yet I ordered the Roasted White Elf Mushroom, Cabbage, Sherry Broth. The mushroom was so meaty and a great entree for a mushroom lover. My favorite dish was Halibut, Morels, Peas, Artichoke, Caviar for sure. By the time the Suckling Pig came to our table I was pretty full. The Caserecci, Braised Rabbit, Honey Mushrooms, Green Almonds pasta was good. I’m a big fan of any rabbit dish, but this wasn’t a big hit for me. Still, it was pretty yummy. It was so lovely to meet Chef Jesse Schenker too. This time there were three of us dinning, but I will soon go back with 5 or 6 friends to try all of the yummy menu.
